Escape the hustle and bustle of Seoul and add this getaway to your Korea itinerary. We like to call this place one of Korea’s Best Kept Seacret.
We knew that we were going to love this place, from the second we started our windy drive up the mountains and were greeted by breathtaking views of the sea – not five minutes out from this lovely lodging establishment.
Known as a pension in Korea, this type of establishment is comparable to a good ole fashioned B&B. The name of this pension is Maremio – which roughly translates to “my sea” in Italian.
OUR FAVORITE ATTRIBUTES
- The charming café has a roasting room where the owner roasts his own coffee beans!
- The floor to ceiling windows that showcase panoramic views of the sea
- The outdoor patio with a swing chair that could fit 2-3 people (we loved having our morning coffee on the swing while watching the sunrise)
- The outdoor kitchen that also included BBQ pits
- The dock that we could walk out onto and sit on to feel the seawater between our toes
- Heated floors (one of our favorite things about Korea in general!)
- Peaceful isolation
ABOUT THE PENSION
This charming pension is owned by a husband and wife duo, who also have a home on top of the hill overlooking the sea. While the café wasn’t open during the time of our stay, we were incredibly lucky to be invited into the basement of their own house which was converted into a café and roasting room, where we had breakfast.
Maremio has six rooms available to choose from. The first and second floors have three rooms each. All six rooms have a waterfront view (which is AMAZING).
They have the perfect dock location for watching prime sunrises — bring some poles down to give fishing a go!
There is also a nice little barbecue cookout spot on the water if you do end up catching some fresh fish, or want to bring your own food to have a nice barbecue – complete with charcoal grills, and chopping boards for cooking.
THE ROOM
Like most places in Korea, the heating is done from the floors. This made for such a warm, and toasty stay with the chilly nights that we had. It has a full bathroom with a standup shower, a small kitchen, and comes with a queen-size bed. There is also has a second-story loft that you can sleep on as well (complete with traditional Korean blankets and mattresses) — if you want to take part in a more traditional route of sleeping. (We did…and it was glorious!)
Our room also had its own individual balcony, AND we had beautiful floor to ceiling windows that showcased a beautiful view of the sea.

February 4, 2020 at 6:49 pmMaremio is a cute place to visit in South Korea. Looks like the perfect weekend trip to escape from the craziness of Seoul. Love how this place has heated floors (can’t live without this feature during the winter time) and the waterfront view. So beautiful! Did you have a chance to meet other guests staying at Maremio?

February 6, 2020 at 8:32 amYes, we love heated floors! It is something that we wish was implemented into homes more in the US and Australia!
We went during the middle of the week so it wasn’t as busy, and the only other people that stayed there was a giant group of young men that went fishing for a night and then left the next morning. lol There must have been about 10-15 of them that rented all of the bottom units! That was in interesting experience to watch in itself though.
